College Hockey East is proud to announce Former Pittsburgh Penguin Ken Wregget will drop the first puck at the 2004 CHE All-Star game. The game will take place at the Castle Shannon Ice Castle at 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 14. Ken will drop the first puck before the start of the first period of the battle between the North and South.
Ken Wregget was a solid goaltender who played for five NHL teams over a 17 year career. Ken was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 4th Round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. Wregget broke in with Maple Leafs in 1983, where he played six seasons with Toronto. Ken was traded during the 1988-1989 season to the Philadelphia Flyers. Ken broke Penguins fans’ hearts in 1989, when he was the winning goalie in the Flyers’ 3-1 win over the Pens in Game Seven of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Ken soon gave Pittsburgh a reason to cheer, when he was traded to the Pens with Rick Tocchet and Kjell Samuelsson in 1992. While with the Pens, he won a Stanley Cup ring in 1991-1992 during the Pens second Cup run. Ken remained with the Pens for seven seasons where he compiled a 104-67-21 record with the Pens. Wregget finished his career with short stints on the Calgary Flames and Detroit Red Wings. Wregget ended his career .885 save percentage. Ken is hails from Brandon, Manitoba and currently resides in Pittsburgh.
